Matthew Andresen is an emerging choreographer passionate about creating movement that serves the story while challenging performers and highlighting their unique talents. Drawing from musical theatre, jazz, contemporary, commercial, and theme park performance, his work blends dynamic visuals with character-driven storytelling to create choreography that audiences remember.

He loves building choreography that feels exciting for audiences while remaining achievable and empowering for performers. While also creating a rehearsal room that values collaboration, positivity, and the discovery of movement that allows every performer to succeed.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Tasked with choreographing the Apache dance in Canaan Days, I blended elements of tango, ballet, and jazz to create a fusion that honored the show's style while showcasing the performers' skills. The choreography emphasized dynamic partnering and dramatic storytelling, and featured technical highlights such as handstands, splits, and jumps, creating a number that was striking and rooted in storytelling.

Broadway Cares

Carthage College

I had the opportunity to co-choreograph the opening number for Carthage College's annual Broadway Cares benefit, a fundraising event supporting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Set to "Larger Than Life" from & Juliet, the piece drew inspiration from early-2000s boy bands, commercial jazz, and hip-hop to create a bold, high-energy concert-style opening that engaged the audience. Working closely with the director, I helped bring their vision to life while creating choreography that was accessible to performers of varying experience levels. The number also featured a dedicated section for our more advanced dancers, incorporating more technical movement to highlight their skills while maintaining a cohesive ensemble performance.
